An Updated Answer

Hey Reader,

A few weeks ago I wrote about a common question I receive often. It's about the number one thing a person can do to improve their health.

I provided a few practical tips that can benefit basically anyone, but they don't get to the heart of what I'm trying to do here. What I think we all want to do when we embark on a health journey.

So I have an updated answer I want to share.

Our motivations for health often determine the best way to achieve that health. We need to be targeted and customized to sufficiently address our unique problems.

And we also have to like what we're doing!

This is why I often take a very individualized approach with clients on how to achieve their goals.

But there is one thing that I feel super passionate about.

It's a mindset shift that will allow us to believe that more is possible.

And that belief in a better future makes it easier to step on the path towards it.

So what does that mean in terms of "the one thing you can do" to improve your health? Well, I think it's critical to

Get curious about your diagnosis

Don't accept it as a life sentence.

Diagnoses are not inherently permanent or non-reversible.

Almost everything can be improved, delayed, or reversed by lifestyle changes

People have reversed Multiple Sclerosis using diets heavy in vegetables and high-quality proteins. (just google Terry Wahls and the incredible research she's undertaking)

People have removed snoring with pallet shapers, tongue placement therapy, weight loss, and fancy straws.

People have eroded cardiovascular disease and diabetes with exercise.

People have regained their livelihoods after suffering through chronic pain and fatigue from autoimmunity and energy system issues via sauna, cold plunge, and meditation

If they can do that, what can you do?!

Keep fighting for an answer until you find something that makes you feel better.

It's unlikely you'll find it on your first or even your third try. But the only way to find it is to keep trying.

And that includes all types of modalities: conventional medicine, Chinese medicine, physical therapy, acupuncture, nutrition, therapy, exercise, breathwork, chiropractors, heat therapy, contrast therapy, aromatherapy, etc...

It's worth it. You're worth it!

Can simple food changes heal auto-immunity?

Autoimmune disease impacts over 8% of adults and that number is growing every year. This rise is most likely due to changes in our environment, including what we eat.

Now, for the tasty treats

Nori Wraps

I made a version of this for lunch today and it was delicious!

It's so fresh and light, easy to make, and extra nourishing.

the EYWC wellness edit Alicia Pope Hey Reader, If your news feeds are anything like mine, you have heard a decent bit about artificial dyes and food colorings. And it can be super confusing to figure out what's actually going on, so I thought I'd summarize some of the important bits here. Here's a quick recap on the background Ultra-processed foods are often colored to look more palatable and fresh than they are. Compared to other countries, colored foods sold in the US have a higher...

Is AI generating your health policy?

the EYWC wellness edit Alicia Pope Hey Reader, There's been a lot of talk about hallucinations this week... and probably not the type you're thinking of. ;) I'm talking about AI hallucinations. This is when AI makes stuff up. This happens because generative AI (like ChatGPT and Gemini) is designed to do just that: generate content. It is not designed to research, summarize existing facts, or fact-check. It is designed to create something that matches the prompt and seems plausible. You can...

the EYWC wellness edit Alicia Pope Hey Reader, First, I'm so happy you're here. It's amazing to me that we live in a time where like-minded people trying to improve their health can band together on the interwebs and share knowledge and help each other grow and improve, bit by bit. A lot is going on with health in policy these days, and I find myself wanting to share the latest legislation and policy because it deeply affects our shared goals of building a healthier community and country. It...
