An Updated Answer

Hey Reader,

A few weeks ago I wrote about a common question I receive often. It's about the number one thing a person can do to improve their health.

I provided a few practical tips that can benefit basically anyone, but they don't get to the heart of what I'm trying to do here. What I think we all want to do when we embark on a health journey.

So I have an updated answer I want to share.

Our motivations for health often determine the best way to achieve that health. We need to be targeted and customized to sufficiently address our unique problems.

And we also have to like what we're doing!

This is why I often take a very individualized approach with clients on how to achieve their goals.

But there is one thing that I feel super passionate about.

It's a mindset shift that will allow us to believe that more is possible.

And that belief in a better future makes it easier to step on the path towards it.

So what does that mean in terms of "the one thing you can do" to improve your health? Well, I think it's critical to

Get curious about your diagnosis

Don't accept it as a life sentence.

Diagnoses are not inherently permanent or non-reversible.

Almost everything can be improved, delayed, or reversed by lifestyle changes

People have reversed Multiple Sclerosis using diets heavy in vegetables and high-quality proteins. (just google Terry Wahls and the incredible research she's undertaking)

People have removed snoring with pallet shapers, tongue placement therapy, weight loss, and fancy straws.

People have eroded cardiovascular disease and diabetes with exercise.

People have regained their livelihoods after suffering through chronic pain and fatigue from autoimmunity and energy system issues via sauna, cold plunge, and meditation

If they can do that, what can you do?!

Keep fighting for an answer until you find something that makes you feel better.

It's unlikely you'll find it on your first or even your third try. But the only way to find it is to keep trying.

And that includes all types of modalities: conventional medicine, Chinese medicine, physical therapy, acupuncture, nutrition, therapy, exercise, breathwork, chiropractors, heat therapy, contrast therapy, aromatherapy, etc...

It's worth it. You're worth it!

Can simple food changes heal auto-immunity?

Autoimmune disease impacts over 8% of adults and that number is growing every year. This rise is most likely due to changes in our environment, including what we eat.

Now, for the tasty treats

Nori Wraps

I made a version of this for lunch today and it was delicious!

It's so fresh and light, easy to make, and extra nourishing.

the EYWC wellness edit Alicia Pope Good morning Reader, I woke up to some news that I thought you would be especially interested in. Due to recent budget cuts and firings, the FDA has suspended its quality and safety testing of milk. What it sounds like is happening is that a major laboratory that performs quality testing will be closed ahead of schedule. This lab was planned to close eventually, but there is no interim lab, and the new lab is not yet ready. This means right now, there is a...

the EYWC wellness edit Alicia Pope Hey Reader, There's been a lot of confusing actions lately with large impacts on our daily health. I wanted to take a minute to talk through a couple of them. We are here (in this proverbial health newsletter space) because we believe in the power of lifestyle and healthy food to heal the body and build better lives. Part of that is avoiding substances that could be damaging or toxic, like food additives and ultra-processed foods designed to build addictions...

the EYWC wellness edit Alicia Pope Hey Reader, Recently I saw a short clip from Dr. Becky Kennedy on the experience of learning that I think applies to a health journey as much as any other journey. There is this temptation in all of us to have a quick fix. To just take this probiotic or eat paleo and have all our health problems miraculously fade away. The problem is, that's fantasy. Because just like life, our bodies and the environments in which they exist are incredibly complex. Our lives...
